Over the last hour, some hail has created icy roads. The Road Weather Alert is current for eastern suburban areas of Melbourne.

There is also an increased chance of sleet and hail across Melbourne as a cold front moves over Victoria.

The dangerous driving conditions warning is current for south-east and eastern suburban Melbourne and motorists are advised to slow down, maintain distance between cars and take extra care.

Today was the coldest Melbourne May day recorded since 2000, with temperatures failing to reach over 11C.

Snow and blizzard like conditions are taking place in the Victorian Alps.

Earlier today it was snowing in Ballarat, an unusual sight in Victoria.

“We’ve had a really large cold air mass push up over Victoria, with multiple smaller cold fronts embedded in the larger front,” the BOM of Vic said.

The cold front is bringing hail to Melbourne suburbs, sleet at Melbourne Airport and snow to regional areas.

High winds are causing some delays in travel.
