Formula 1 has announced that the Australian Grand Prix will stay in Melbourne until 2035

F1 Melbourne fans will be feeling pretty chuffed right about now after the announcement that Victoria has struck a new 10-year deal to host the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Although there was huge interest from many other rival cities, Melbourne ultimately came out on top, locking in the Grand Prix until 2035.

It’s a huge win for the sporty Australian city and will serve as a massive drawcard for tourists from all over the world and a much-needed economy booster.

The new ten-year agreement will start in 2025, and will also see Formula 2 and Formula 3 join the race weekend schedule for the first time ever.

The 2022 Grand Prix saw over 419,000 fans cram into the Albert Park circuit for the highly anticipated race weekend, making it the largest crowd for a weekend sporting event in Australian history and cementing the future of Formula 1 in Melbourne.

Over the last few years, improvements and investments have been pumped into the venue to upgrade the circuit, and this will continue over the coming years. The work will enhance the experience and modernise the facilities for teams for a smoother running of the event.

Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO at Formula 1, said he’s excited for the future of Formula 1 in Australia.

“The race has always been a favourite for the fans, drivers and the teams and Melbourne is an incredible and vibrant international city that is a perfect match for our sport. This year we saw huge crowds and passionate fans at the Grand Prix, and we are very excited by the future in Australia as our sport continues to grow.”
